Broadcasts & Public Engagements

I’m a BBC New Generation Thinker and a frequent guest contributor on BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking, I also deliver talks and lectures on a range of subjects from narrative medicine, SEN and neuropsychiatry. Scroll down to explore some of my work delving into medical storytelling and the human side of healthcare.
Whether on the air or in person, I’m always looking for new ways to connect with audiences and spark deeper conversations about mind, medicine, and meaning. For media collaborations, speaking engagements, or commissioned writing, contact me.
In 2007, while working as a visiting consultant psychiatrist in a remote, predominantly Māori township, Ōpōtiki, I saw a series of large-scale murals painted by local adolescents.

These murals were more than art; they were expressions of identity, self-construction, and negotiation of bicultural relationships between Māori and Pākehā. They framed adolescence as shaped by cultural heritage, post-colonial histories, and racial identity in contemporary Aotearoa New Zealand.
Seeing how these young artists used visual storytelling to express their experiences in ways clinical language could not inspired me to study for an MSc in Medical Humanities at King’s College London.
